I decided to back to college a couple years ago to be a better witness to (and participant in) the current convergences of mathematics, genetics, systems/information theories, nano-technology and psychedelic science, so I enjoyed this lecture which delves into biophysics, neuroscience and the qualia of consciousness. Hameroff's research reveals some amazing information relating to drug activity, synchrony and consciousness. He appeared in the slapstick, new-age mega-success 'What The Fuck Do We Know?' (ice-crystals getting their feelings hurt and shamans who can't see an ocean vessel right in front of their face... okay, the drunk, horny cartoon hormones were cute...) but definitely don't let that turn you off from what he really has to share.

Synchronicities

If you've ever read any Robert Anton Wilson or Alistair Crowley or occult conspiracy material, you will have heard of the particular place the number 23 holds in reality. Or if you haven't been exposed to 23's ubiquity then I refer you to the recent Jim Carey thriller, The Number 23. Well, the simplest universal program (universal computer) was proved to be a 2-3 Turing machine about a month ago! A 2-3 Universal Turing machine is like cellular automata with two states and three colors, and contains every pattern possible. A 7-state, 4-color machine from 1962 held the record until now. Proved in 20 pages by a 20 year old, it was an historic breakthrough in mathematics and the info-sciences (more info below). So, relax all you 23ers, you were right. No matter how hard you try, you will never stop seeing 23s EVERYWHERE!!

Radio transmitter/receiver thousand times smaller than human hair

A new application of 'smart dust' or nano-devices has been demonstrated. Microscopic radio detectors have been used to transmit classical music from an Ipod to speakers several meters away. The implications for nanoscale, wireless communications are, of course, enormous. Aside from global networking of information channels, the next step involves detecting light, temperature and vibrations which will have applications in everything from medicine to geosciences.

Outstanding article by a paleoanthropologist from our future. This is one of those linguistic creations that is so psychedelically informed it acts as multifaceted reality-jewel and a vision endowed by cosmic timescales. I really don't have much of a response because a lot of what passes through my mind was cohesively represented by the words of this article. So save this one, print it and read it on the bus or with a morning cup of yerba mate or opium tea or whatever you sip in your dreamtime-to-daytime transition.
