22nd Century could be a wonderful new show
The pilot episode for 22nd century was great. They use Aldous Huxley and a holographic cyborg as characters to simplify explanations, and use pretty, psychedelic graphics and editing for ambiance.
The most amazing for me was the last segment about Rodolfo Llinas who has developed 500-nm. Nanowires that can be inserted into the blood vessels of human brains.
The nanowires may allow for stimulating the senses directly, creating visual perceptions, auditory perceptions, movements, and feelings, creating the ultimate virtual reality, as well as direct communication between man and machine or human brain-to-human-brain communication.
The research is described on 22nd Century, a PBS pilot that aired on January 17 and can be viewed online.
The program also features research in allowing paralyzed patients to communicate, the cochlear implant which is allowing thousands of totally deaf people to hear, and Steve Mann's Eyetap glasses, which continuously record what you see and have the ability to interject new information into what you are watching.
